Shocking revelations have emerged on the illegal dealings that some rogue Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers are allegedly engaged in at Mazowe Jumbo Mine. Some members of the police force residing within the mine’s proximity and even more their spouses and relatives are reportedly doubling up as sex workers at the mine in a bid to cash in on the much-sought-after foreign currency circulating in the area.
Located some 40km north-west of the capital Harare, Jumbo Mine, which some have called a trader’s paradise because of the foreign currency in massive circulation is reportedly flooded with vendors from the all over the country seeking to make a quick buck. iHarare has learnt that the mining area is infested with the lawless machete-wielding artisanal miners notoriously known as ‘Mashurugwi’ who are allegedly working in cahoots with some members of the police force.
In a leaked internal letter dated 3 January, circulating on social media the officer commanding Support Unit issued a stern warning against members of the police force who are obstructing the course of justice and engaged in illegal dealings at the mine.
This office has learnt with great dismay that there are some members, their spouses and relatives who reside in Chikurubi and other police camps in and around Harare, who visit Mazowe Jumbo Mine for the purposes of vending, illegal panning, prostitution and other illicit activities.
